Time is a concept through which we measure reality. It weaves together the threads of our lives, bringing people in and out in ways we can sometimes see coming and sometimes in ways we can never anticipate.
December 21, 2023 is the day of the winter solstice, when the Earth's north pole reaches its maximum tilt away from our star, creating the day where the sun travels its shortest path across the sky here in the north of the world. That means the day of the least light, and the longest night. It's dark, and can be dour and haunting. I choose to see it as the true beginning, though. It's the day where every day after begins the uphill climb toward summer. The first day of winter and yet it's the beginning of the end of darkness.
This time of year always makes me feel more withdrawn, more hibernative, more introspective and more in need of coziness. We've already had our first, albeit brief, snowfall of the year, with more on the way soon I'm sure. It's time for a slow down, and after this week, I get a much needed break, with quite a bit of emotional and intellectual labour being taken off my plate, which means a well deserved rest and break.
I hope you have time for rest during this time of year. You deserve rest, you deserve to feel relaxed, and you deserve to take a moment, hug yourself, and remind yourself that you do love you. Be kind to you.
Love Qualia
